Customer Success
Challenges
- Existing AWS infrastructure needed to be reviewed
- On premises databases needed to be migrated to AWS to improve reliability and reduce latency
- Excel spreadsheets were used for the business reporting
Outcomes
- Infrastructure was reviewed and necessary guardrails implemented to make sure the best practices are followed
- On premises databases migrated to AWS
- Data platform built with multiple data sources ingested and dynamic reporting capabilities implemented
- Significantly improved accessibility of data, as well as the ability to combine data from multiple sources, gaining a whole new level of visibility and insight
Founded in 1996, Classic Group are an integrated development company providing services across the construction sector.
Based in Tauranga, New Zealand, Classic Group have challenged themselves to build value across the construction sector – from land development to commercial construction, retirement villages and asset management services.
The challenge
Classic Group already had a presence in the AWS cloud with resources provisioned. They required a partner who could assist them with several initiatives such as:
- Reviewing their existing cloud infrastructure.
- Migrate existing on premises databases to the cloud.
- Gaining visibility over the supply chain, construction process, delays etc.
The solution
The initial engagement was to review Classic Group’s existing Control Tower implementation.
The team at CyberCX worked to improve networking and guardrails in the customers’ accounts, and the next engagement followed in quick succession.
Classic Group have a number of data sources representing various stages of the business processes; however the data was siloed and hard to access. The management team were relying on spreadsheets for the current state of play. Manual curation of the spreadsheets was complex and time consuming.
Classic Group wanted to automate reporting, and to do that they needed to build a data platform as a foundation layer, where reporting will be fed from.
They reached out to AWS with this request and AWS organised a multi-day workshop with CyberCX, during which a PoC solution was built.
Classic Group then agreed to CyberCX’s help turning the PoC into a production-ready system. This has turned into multiple successfully delivered engagements:
- All CyberCX teams who were involved at various stages delivered on our promised outcomes.
- Time was spent understanding the Classic Group environment where CyberCX provided technical forward thinking and leadership.
- Open communication with the Classic Group team throughout the engagement was key to success.
- We worked closely with the Classic Group tech teams during hand overs, to ensure that they can operate the solution after our engagement is complete.
The outcome
During the GenAI roundtable event with CyberCX and AWS, Classic Group shared that the reporting capabilities that they now have is allowing them to gain insights which has led to significant improvements in their processes across the full cycle.
Automated reporting capabilities guarantee that the reporting data is accurate and up to date.
Team members who used to spend time keeping excel spreadsheets up to date, are now focusing on building automated reports that allow management to get important questions answered quickly.
Environment reviews and WAFRs make sure that Classic Group AWS infrastructure is secure and compliant.
Classic Group is only just getting started, they are interested in further collaboration, looking to explore how they can use GenAI in conjunction with the data platform that has been built.
“The team at CCX have been an important part of the data and analytics journey of the Classic Group. We have appreciated the professionalism and expertise of the CCX data engineering team. Looking forward to continuing to build on the relationship as we head towards new and exciting projects together”
