Customer Success
Investigating and prosecuting fraud is a fundamental part of ASIC’s business as a federal regulator. This function relies heavily on the collection, storage and analysis of copious amounts of evidential data through the use of advanced digital forensics software. ASIC were facing a significant issue with capacity around their on-premises compute and NetApp storage platforms that support this function. At current usage patterns, it was estimated that all space would be consumed within a matter of months, representing a major risk to business operations. Due to delays in procuring additional hardware, it was necessary to the public cloud for a viable solution to this problem.
Solution
ASIC had been engaged with CyberCX for quite some time in establishing a PROTECTED grade AWS tenancy that was already hosting a number of business-critical applications. As an AWS established Data & Analytics Competency, CyberCX was able to help secure approved co-funding to work with AWS and NetApp on the design and implementation of a fully cloud hosted solution that was able to effectively scale up and down whilst maintaining availability and performance.
- Dedicated Accounts/VPCs established in existing PROTECTED tenancy
- All existing PROTECTED controls inherited for foundations and guardrails
- On-prem NetApp clusters expanded into AWS with FSx NetApp OnTap with over 700TB of storage securely and efficiently replicated.
- Fully automated deployment and configuration management
- Environments stood up/down on-demand
- Templated builds with CloudFormation/Terraform
- End-to-end CI/CD
- Configuration management tools used for automated application install/config
- Security uplift with integration to existing cloud guardrails
- Real time vulnerability scanning
- Advanced endpoint protection
- SIEM/SOC
Result
This project was completed from design to production delivery within 16 weeks, on time and on budget with considerably reduced cost to the customer from AWS MAP funding. It effectively removed the existing on-premises capacity constraints through the use of FSx for NetApp ONTAP and provided ASIC with the capability to quickly spin up and down test environments on demand.
Furthermore, we were able to significantly improve the RTO of the environment by providing a combination of active/active and active/passive services across multiple AWS Availability Zones.
